Did you know that October is American Archives Month? Archives and archivists are tasked with acquiring, preserving, and providing access to original, primary-source materials (documents, maps, photos, rare books, and films) in their collections. Oftentimes they manage items that are a little odd, feel like misfits, or are generally mysterious in nature. This event will feature items that don’t frequently see the light of day.
Visit with archivists displaying items held in the following archival repositories:
State Archives of New Mexico
New Mexico State Library
University of New Mexico’s Center for Southwest Research
Fray Angélico Chávez History Library at the New Mexico History Museum
New Mexico Highlands University,
National Hispanic Cultural Center
Chaco Culture National Historical Park and Aztec Ruins National Monument
Museum of International Folk Art
New Mexico Museum of Art
New Mexico Supreme Court Law Library
New Mexico Military Museum
Philmont Museum
Georgia O’Keeffe Museum
In addition to the displays, learn more about what archivists do and how you can best manage your own personal archives.
