Explore the curious world of fungi through wool! In this hands-on needle-felting workshop, participants will create small sculptural mushrooms inspired by the colors, textures, and surprising forms found in nature.

We’ll look at real fungi for inspiration—from delicate gills and rounded puffballs to branching and clustered forms—then learn basic needle-felting techniques to transform wool into our own mushroom sculptures. Participants can work from nature or invent an entirely new species.

Finished fungi can become hanging ornaments, seasonal decorations, gifts, or tiny works of fiber art. Along the way, we’ll consider fungi as ecological transformers and the often-unseen networks that connect life beneath our feet.

No previous felting experience is necessary.

What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting a little fiber on.

What Will Be Provided
All materials and tools will be provided, including wool fibers in a range of colors, felting needles, finger guards and a durable work surface. You’ll leave with your finished creation, and the skills & tools to continue exploring needle felting on your own.

About the Instructor
Andrea Dupree is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Northern New Mexico, and the founder of Curious Bluebird. Her work centers on sculptural felt forms, installations, and material-based practices that explore transformation, ecology, and creative process.

Andrea brings over 20 years of experience as a teaching artist and holds a Master’s degree in Innovative Early Childhood Education, with a focus on the Reggio Emilia approach. She is a registered Yoga teacher, and her workshops integrate mindfulness and hands-on making to support creative exploration.

In 2026 Andrea exhibited her felt sculpture in Bound by the High Desert: Contemporary Fiber Art at the Historic Santa Fe Foundation’s El Zaguán Gallery and in a solo exhibition, Curious Maximalist, at Little Bites Gallery in Santa Fe. She is currently working on a large-scale fiber, found object and video art installation, Gathered and Felt, that will debut at the New Mexico Museum of Art’s Vladem Contemporary in January 2027.
